I created several lists in a spreadsheet that
I am not using. Does anyone know how to delete
these lists in Excel 2003?

Thanks,
Lynn

To delete the list:
If you created these lists using the *List* menu then I think you just
need to delete the cells containing the list data. This would be all
cells within the list border.

To *unlist* the data:
Alternativly, you can convert the list to a normal range and leave the
data or clear the contents of the cells. You can do this via the *List*
menu.

The only thing in my *Data/List* menu is the entries
"Create List..." and "Hide Borders of inactive Lists".

Then no *Lists* exist. You only get the other menuitems if the active
worksheet contains *Lists* created via the *Create List...* menuitem.

F5, the goto dialog, shows six different lists.
How do I delete these ?

Thanks,

Those are just named cells or ranges aren't they ? If so, try formulas/name
manager and delete them there. :)

I'm hinking same as Bruce. Items that appear in this dialog are
typically named ranges that can be deleted in the *defineName* dialog.

That worked!

The dialog was at "Insert / Name / Define...".
Not obvious at all in Excel 2003.

Lynn,
Glad you got a solution. Sorry for not being more explanatory on
where/how to open the DefineName dialog! (I assumed you were familiar
enough using Excel to know this; ..my bad!<g>)

Like most users of Excel, I am familiar with the
20% of it that I use. Nowhere near the power
user that I used to be with 1-2-3 but I have no
need to be.

Now, if you want to know about C++/OLE usage and
Excel, I'm your man.

Thanks,
Lynn

I've never bothered with OLE usage with Excel because I find it easier
(and consistently more stable) to use an automated instance for
Excel-based projects. I'm a classic VB guy by attrition because I do a
lot of Excel VBA programming. I thought I'd migrate to C++ since
support for VB is not going to happen going forward. I chose this
because I have the Farpoint ActiveX Spread.ocx (among others) and not
interested in upgrading to .Net version. Basically, I can dupe all
my Excel VBA projects as stand-alone VB6.EXEs and so I'll probably
continue with that since all the code is done and VB6 only requires its
runtime DLL be in the same path as the EXE. (I use a manifest so I run
reg-free)

When the "ribbon' arrived, obvious left the building. :)
My solution is to minimise the thing and put everythign I need in my quick
bar. Now ...to find a double line version of that. :)

Glad you got it sorted. :)

Idle question ... does MS actually ask the users what they want before
making these decisions ? forums vs news groups I know the answer (no).

Do they ask about *anything* before changing it ??

Thanks

Initially, I used J-Walk's code to create the older Excel menus in
XL2007 and used only the Addins tab. After I got familiar with where
things were I don't create the older menus anymore!<g>

My major objection tothe ribbon was the waste space it created at the top
of my docs. I tried to move it to the side ... but no, we can't even move
it where we want it. Inconceivable ! :)

Yeah.., that's one peeve of mine too! Albert has the right idea, but
use a userform set up to mimic a floating toolbar with all the old
menus on it!<g>

I was so peeved with the Ribbon concept that I bought Spread.ocx from
FarPoint so I could make my own spreadsheet apps using VB6. I was able
to duplicate all my Excel addins as stand-alone EXEs, but after Ron
deBruin released his Ribbon code I reverted back to Excel addins
because that's what clients wanted. Now, I lock it down so only my
menus/tabs are accessible since most of my stuff is task-oriented,
user-specific utilities that pretty much work like stand-alone apps
anyway.
