Using Outlook 2000 - 2003 against an IMAP mailserver:

When we delete items the item appear in strikeout.
We can add a button to the toolbar to purge items marked for deletion but we
would really like to see things go directly to the trash instead of
appearing in strikeout mode.

We would then like to have the user empty their trash when appropriate.

Any ideas on how to change this behavior?

TIA,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Short answer: You can't. This is how IMAP works. IMAP doesn't support a
trash folder feature, but rather marks messages as deleted and you have
to purge the folder then.
What you can change is the view. You can alter the view so that
striked-out messages are not shown at all. There are a few views that
include hide deleted messages. If you want to customize your own view,
create a filter. In the advanced tab, type "IMAP Status" in the box
below the field drop down, press tab (equals unmarked should appear in
the next two fields). Then press add to list and OK.
The only challenge with hiding deleted messages is that users tend to
forget to purge then.
