deleting files causes multiple copies to appear.

I have a problem deleting copies of files that I have no use for. Each time
I delete a copy at least two more crop up to replace the deletion. It is
like the sorcerer's apprentice. In some cases I have more than 50 copies of
the same file. That can't be good. I have Norton anti-viral protection. I
would like to delete all the extra files in the most expeditious manner
available, without destroying the originals. This is happening to Word
files and adobe picture files.

What kind of files you are trying to delete? These could possibly be system
files that get replaced by the system after you delete them...
