There are a couple of ways to delete the file. If it is
located in a directory you no longer use, use the command
prompt to go to the folder with the unused directory in
it, and type "RD /s "type foldername here without quotes"
and then press y <enter>
If that isnt sounding good for you, boot into safe mode
and try deleting it from there. If it still wont delete,
while still in safe mode rename the folder that the file
(s) is/are located in, and then rename it. Then restart
your computer and boot back into safe mode and try
deleting it again.
If all this fails, use the Recovery Console (insert your
Widnows XP install disk and boot from it, then when it
asks tell it you want to repair your windows xp
instalation via the recovery console) and navigate to the
directory and delete the file.
*THIS PART REQUIRES EDITING THE REGISTRY, PLEASE BACK IT
UP BEFORE DOING ANYTHING DUMB!!!*
If none of this works, it could be a problem in thw
windows registry (regedit.exe) but dont attempt to edit
your registry unless you know how to. Try finding
a "Registry Cleaner" program through google and it SHOULD
find this invalid entry of where this file is located and
delete it, then restart your pc and try deleting again.
If you do know how to edit the registry, then while in
regedit, do a search for the directory the file is
located in (In example, if the file is located in a
program folder, you would do a search for something like
this "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player") and
eventually a string shoudl show up with that file name
and/or the directory of it. Delete the entry and reboot.
Hope this works, one of those methods are almost
gauranteed to delete the file.
