deleting desktop background

In Display Properties, under Desktop: Backgrounds, there
are several backgrounds to choose from. I want to delete
several of them from the list. How do I do that?

Background images are known as Wallpaper. You can find
the files listed at: C:\windows\Web\Wallpaper
There you can delete and also add BMP files of your
choosing.

buzzzz....guess again. The only wallpapers in that
folder are the ones that came with winxp. I've
downloaded some myself--those are the ones I wish to get
rid of. I've tried to delete them before, but they still
show up in the list of backgrounds to choose from in the
display properties. Now I can't find what folder they
are in. Any suggestions? Thanks.
