deleting blocked text and getting to top of page

I cannot delete a block of text after I have hi-lighted it
by just pressing the delete key, why not? Also, how do I
get back to the top of the page when control/home does not
work.
 
Both problems are caused by having the WordPerfect options enabled on the
General tab of Tools | Options.

"Tools", "Options", "General" TAB, uncheck the two options for WordPerfect.
