Deleting and Purging Messages

When I delete a message from my inbox and purge the message from view does
the message go to the deleted items folder or is it permanetly gone?

Sounds like you're using an IMAP account: deleting causes the message to
display with a line through it and then Edit>Purge removes it from the
display.

Why not open the Deleted Items folder and see if it's there? I suspect,
though, that your IMAP server doesn't have a Deleted Items folder. I just
tested it and, while the IMAP server I used does have a "wastebasket" folder
that is the equivalent of Outlook's Deleted Items folder, that folder
doesn't appear in the folder list displayed for the IMAP account and neither
does a Deleted Items folder.
