Sometimes, from the file explorer, when I delete a file, it takes almost a
minute for the process to complete. It does'nt matter what the size of the
file is. Why does it take so long?

Brian,

Maybe because your Recycle Bin is full? When the Recycle Bin is full,
Windows is deleting the older items (or the biggest, I do not remember
exactly and I do not use RB).

My suggestion is to empty your RB and see if the things improve.

Greetings,

Philip.

Unless you are using Shift+Delete the process involves moving a copy to
your Recycle Bin, which involves reading and writing as well as removing
the pointer to the original file. Remember deleting only removes the
pointer and the file is written over when you write new information to
the point on the disk where the file is or run Disk Defragmenter.

Hope this helps.

The actual "file" is not moved, only the "directory entry" is moved so
to speak.
