I posted this problem on New Users discussion last week and got no reaction,
so as the problem persists I'll see if anyone here has a possible solution.
This is such an infuriating weakness in the program that I will be ditching
Outlook after less than 2 weeks of use, unless I can get a solution in the
next day or so.
When some clients reply to my messages, all I see is my original message,
and their comments (the text of their actual reply) is absent. I know they
have sent comments because I have contacted them by phone and asked them to
re-send, to no avail. This has happened in the case of two clients whose
replies were important. I have tried switching on or off the firewall, plain
text, antivirus, all to no avail. Any suggestions gratefully received.

I should mention that I have tried all the conventional sources of help,
including MS phone help, MS web help, searched these groups and KB with no
result.

Do you have any add-ins like Plaxo? What version of Outlook? What account
type?

Hello Brian. I haven't put in any mail add-ins, Office is the only software I
arranged to be loaded when I bought my laptop and I've since added
printer/scanner utilities, Norton Antivirus, Ad-Aware and Spybot. Neither of
the latter have the filters switched on. My Office version is 2003 Basic and
was loaded on delivery, I updated it fully through Office Update. My email
accounts are local POP3/SMTP dial-ups with two well-established ISPs, and
access to a client's mailbox through one of those. One of the ISPs goes
through a proxy server. The problem has occurred with all three accounts.
Glad if you have any ideas.

Norton Antivirus is notorious for not playing well with Outlook. Were I in
your shoes, I'd experiment with uninstalling Norton completely just for a
test.

Thanks. I should have mentioned that I only installed Norton last weekend.
Prior to that, and when the problem first occurred, I had Zonealarm with
Antivirus downloaded on a trial. After I opted for Norton the problem
reoccurred with one message on Monday.
