Deleted Material Controlling Endnotes

This is a reformulation of my previous question. It appears that deleted
material (visible when selecting "final showing mark-up") is controlling
endnote numbering. How do I disable / get rid of this? Thanks.

Accept all changes and turn off the track changes feature (see
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/trackchanges/HowTrackChangesWorks.html);
then numbering should be correct.

Numbering in a document with tracked changes will never be correct until the
changes have been accepted/rejected.
