Deleted items not going to trash folder

I'm using Outlook 2002--
When I delete items from my inbox, they simply disappear rather than moving
to my Trash folder. How can I make sure a copy of my deleted items appear in
my Trash folder in case I accidentally delete something and need to retrieve
it?
Much thanks in advance!

Do you delete by SHIFT+DELETE?
Do you encouter the same behavior when you delete files in Windows or is
this just for Outlook items?
What version of Outlook are you using?
What account type are you using?

Thanks for the quick response!
I don't do SHIFT+DELETE, I just use the X or hit "delete". Should I be doing
something different?
I am using Outlook 2002 and the account is an IMAP account. I actually have
2 email accounts (both IMAPs) on Outlook and I only get this problem with one
of them. With the other one, it puts a line through it and then I can purge
them once I'm sure I'm done with it (although I'd love to keep those in a
Trash folder too - oh well). And I'm not sure what you mean by the question
about the same thing happening with Windows items... when I delete Word files
and things they go to the recycling bin. Is that what you mean?
Thank you!

Yep, that is what I meant :)

Does this happen for all your folders of that IMAP account?
Also check your view settings; you might have a filter applied that hides
the deleted items.
For IMAP is no Trash Can, just the strike through

It wasn't hidden from view, but good call :)
If I delete from any of the other folders in that account it does the strike
through (and I have to "purge" to get rid of it). So if I understand
correctly, because it is an IMAP account I can't "save" my deleted items? I
thought about trying to make a rule to move deleted items to a Trash folder,
but I didn't see a way to do that. I would be able to do it manually after
viewing each item (right?), but that seems like a pain. Is it the only way?
Thank you so much!

I'm sorry, but I don't understand... When I want to save what I'm "deleting"
I should go to file, save as, and then what? For each separate email?
Thanks--

It sounds like something is wrong with the subscribtion for that folder
then. Unsubscribe and then subscribe again so it resyncs to your PC.

For IMAP there is indeed no Deleted Items folder. A thing that you can do is
to modify your view so that it doesn't show the deleted items by default so
you can enjoy a clean view of your mailbox. Don't forget to purge every now
and then ;-)
