Deleted items malfunction

Recently, when I attempt to delete all e-mails in the deleted items section,
only one at a time would be deleted whereas, in the past, the entire folder
was deleted with one stroke. How do I restore the proper functionality?

Difficulty deleting emails can be resolved with this Microsoft fix:

Although that article only mentions Outbox, it works for all mail folders.
