In a complete act of stupidity, I had an automated script
delete all of the individual files on my c: including:

io.sys, config.sys, ntdetect.exe, etc.

What are my options? I seem to have two options when
rebooting from CD, either re-installing Windows, or using
the repair console, which does not seem to help.

Can I recover by copying these files via the a: drive from
a separate machine in recovery console?

Will re-installing delete my documents and other files on
c:?

Thanks,

Rob MacNeill

You don't need the repair console; you need the second repair option. After
XP detects the operating system, it gives you the option of repairing it.
All you need to repair is the boot.

If you do that, you won't need recovery console. Just copy the files
over as you suggested.

I don't think so, Rob.

But a backup...even at THIS point...is always a good idea. Ya never
know!

Good luck.

Have a nice week...
