Deleted files.

I have a series of files that are taking up space on my
2K Server and I have been archiving them to tape then
deleting them. Problem is I have a rash of files
that "do not exist" but they are taking up disk space.
The file types range from *.pst (outlook personal folder
files) to *.zip and *.jpeg. I can move the files all over
the hard disk but i can not move them to another drive.
I beleive this has to do with the fact that moving the
file to a new directory on the same drive only changes
the path to the file but not the file itself. Any time i
try and do anything to the file itself, I get the error:
"can not delete (copy, move, open) file: file does not
exist"

Can someone please advise on how to eliminate these pesky
ghost files?

Hello Steven,
I have to ask the simple question first because it was not stated in the first note.
Have you run chkdsk /f on the drive in question?
If not, run chkdsk on the drive and see if it finds any problems.

Yes that was one of the first things i did. Was here
very late that night to avoid conflicts with office
personell. No errors were found and nothing has been
reported in the event logs (ie. bad sector errors or bad
block errors.)
