Deleted files or not?

Hi
When running a Systemtec/Norton scan various jpeg/mpeg files are listed as
being scanned (they do not appear as dangerous). However I understand these
files where manually deleted sometime ago. Thing is, I can't actually find
the folders/files in the folder list even when showing hidden files, why are
they shown as being scanned when they apparently don't exist/display?- is
this a Windows or Sytemtec issue. I've IM with Sytemtec on a number of
occasions and they frankly don't seem to have a clue.

Yes - the files in question were supposedly in the Temporary Internet
Files/Content IE etc. they are not apprently there, the recycle bin is empty.
Ive used delete cookies, temporary internet files etc. through IE Tools menu
but Norton keeps apparently scanning them and I can't find them. I don't know
how they were deleted

Yes - which allows me to get as far as Local Settings. However the rest of
the path Temorary Internet Files\Content.IE5\*\*.jpg are not visible in the
lists. But are displyed in the lists of files being scanned. I don't know
if there is another way of hiding files that i've not enabled?

OK, what I just did was use Microsoft Search, All Files and Folders, C:
drive and in the 'All or part of the file name:' field I entered the
following: *IE5*

This listed all the locations for folders that had the all or part of the
name IE5, there were seven paths (locations) on my PC.

Hi

I've done all the clean-up stuff and it has no effect. No search using any
criteria will display the files in question, my PC simply refuses to believe
these files still exist anywhere! I've tried manually deleting the named
file but it won't let me due to a Anti-Phising folder being protected.

I assume this must be a Systemtec/Norton issue - it seems to scan ghost
files or at least claim to be scanning these files? The problem is Systemtec
appear to have no idea what to do and keep passing me off/around.

Well I did the system restore thing and the CCleaner thing and run their scan
twice-systemtec got me to run %tmp% and delete it all (before I was
disconnected from them). But the files are still showing when I run a
scan!!! Anyone who can lend a hand here it would be appreciated!

More than likely the names of the programs/files is still in the registry.
You can safely delete them from there (since they're deleted anyway) Click
start, run, type in REGEDIT, click edit then find and type in the
program/file you want to locate. Delete it when it is found.

PS Good registry cleaners handle this problem.

Have you emptied the recycle bin?

*and* the Norton Protected Bin. A portion of Symantec's suites that often
gets installed unintentionally. The user may not even be aware that it's
active.

Also, someone has made the inference that Norton may be reading from the
registry rather than the file system. Have seen it in the past and haven't
missed it since moving away from Symantec products on my systems.
