deleted emails in OE6

I was in the middle of adding a new hard drive to my wife's laptop, only to
discover that her outlook express inbox was missing the most recent two
weeks of email. I went back to the original drive, to find the same problem,
so I can rule out the migration as probable cause. My wife would also know
if she had deleted the emails. she does let her inbox get fairly large,
though, before cleaning it up. I've also searched for any possible malware
cause but this has not found any likely culprit.

Has anyone seen or heard of this problem before?
