deleted address in auto suggest

When a Contact changed email address, I deleted the old one and replaced it
with the new one. However, when typing in the 'To' box, Auto suggest still
gives me the 'old', deleted address. How can I get rid of it?

Sorry, you've misunderstood. I've tried all the usual things but what I want
to get rid of is the 'old' email address which keeps appearing. It doesn't
appear anywhere in my contacts list and, when I click on its' Properties, I'm
told that it does not exist! Any ideas, please?

I meant to highlight it in the auto-suggest dropdown and hit Delete

Thanks, but I'm afraid I've already tried that, and everything else I can
think of, including deleting all the records for the Contact, and then adding
it as a new contact. The old address is obviously in a memory somewhere, but
I can't find it!

What Vince is saying is that when you begin to type in the To field and the
old address displays, use the up/down arrow keys to highlight it and then
press the Delete key on your keyboard. If it's the only address beginning
with the letters you've entered, you must enter another, valid address
beginning with those letters, then resolve it with CTRL-K (you don't have to
send the message). Then erase the name fro the To field and begin typing
the bad name again. It will now be part of a list and you'll be able to
select it with the arrow keys and press Delete to get rid of it.

Thanks, I'd tried most of what you suggest before, without success, but I
didn't know about CTRL-K, and that seems to have cured it
