Alan

have two DCs with AD integrated zones. Now want to
conver one (DC2) to standard secondary zones. Tried to
convert the "." zone to secondary and remove it.
However, was not able to remove the "." zone after
conversion, with error messages saying the zone type was
not correct...need help!

Why not convert it back and just delete it?

If you have to ask, you don't need it unless you have multiple
DNS trees and no other way to resolve them other than a
common root (or parent.)

Goot point!!! Why don't you "just" delete it? Why do you want to convert
it?

Thanks, could do that, but just trying to make it neat.

The puzzling part is the "zone type was not correct"
thing, why I am getting that?

Never heard of making the root a secondary. I actually created one, changed
it's type to AD Integrated, then to a Primary and then to a Secondary (with
of course giving it a fake IP for the master), and didn't have any problems
with deleting it. Tried it mutliple ways, including what you described,
without any problems.

Just curious, why did you want to change it to a Secondary prior to deleting
it? Was there a method you read about that mentioned that or such?

In Alan <[email protected]> posted their thoughts, then I
offered mine

Never heard of making the root a secondary. I actually

in a large enterprise, using a standard setup using root
hints, the root could be very busy and crucial. So there
are needs for secondary ".".

the internet root servers, having 13 (now more?) of them
and only one was master.

he wants to keep the ".", otherwise the "." will be
deleted by AD replication.

Thanks confused. Didn't think about copying it around a larger
environment...
