delete files in mapped drive

I have a W2K server running AD, Exchange, and OWA and
some of my staff are having problems deleting files. They
can highlight and delete one file and when they highlight
and delete another file they get a message the file is
open in use by another program or you do not have
permission. What can I do to correct this problem?

that usually means that the file they are trying to delete
is in use by another user
 
These files are not in use by anyone or any program. They
are just .doc that are old and each staff person has
their own mapped drive. Any other suggestions. PLEASE!!!
