delete command

when attempting to delete a block of (highlighted) text by hitting the delete
key, I get a message "delete yes or No" which requires a second key stroke.
How do I get the delete key to do the job?

Tools | Options | General: Clear the check boxes for both items that refer
to WordPerfect.
