Delay on Bootup

For about 6 months or so the time between power up and the bios prompt seems
to have been getting longer and longer and now is about 45 seconds.

This happens with both power on and a restart.

The screen is black for about 45 seconds, then a quick flash screen "IBM
ThinkCentre", then a white underline cursor flashing in the upper left for
a second, another quick "IBM ThinkCentre" flash screen and then normal
bootup.

I have another identical system (at least hardware wise) and it is only
maybe 10 seconds in this pre-boot activity.

What is this guy doing in the first 45 seconds?
