I experience a 1-2 minute delay opening any page when I
first boot up (brodband). After that, everyting moves at
full speed. I can get Outlook immediately, so it is not
my provider. Any ideas?

sounds like either you have too much coming on
background at start-up,or not enough RAM memory,128mb
will do this 256mb is ok,512mb is very good,1 gig(if your
motherboard supports it )great!Or go to run type in
msconfig,ok,startup tab,disable everything,restart,check
box don't show again,go to this site
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
line 148 right side, remove disabled items from
msconfig, run it and remove all items, then go to your
antivirus and turn it on at start up,(thats all you need
coming on at start up anyway.(you'll still have all the
items, they just wont be running in the background at
startup eatting Ram you need to startup,it takes a lot to
start several programs at startup this will fix it and
startup faster, mine used to take 5 minutes,I did this and
now it takes bout 5 seconds.

Thanks for the tip - only two problems: (1) I have 1 gig
of RAM (2) I don't see many new startup programs in
msconfig that I had a week ago when I did not have this
problem.

Geoff,
You might find something helpful at http://www.dslreports.com/faq/faq
(troubleshooting) But, it's been my experience that the first DNS lookup can
take a while.

Check that your LAN settings are set as recommended by your ISP. Keep
Temporary Internet Files at 50 MB or less and clear the TIF occasionally.

I'm not sure there's anything else to try.
