ON MY COMPUTER I HAVE THRE HARD DISKS (30GB x 2 AND A USB 250GB)
NOW WHEN I "Click Defragment Now" AND DEFRAG STARTS, DOES IT DEFRAG ALL THE
HARD DISKS.
BECAUSE AS IT IS, IT DOES NOT TELL YOU WHICH DISK IS WORKING ON.

ITS NOT LIKE WINDOWS XP WHICH SHOW YOU ALL THE INFORMATION.

CAN SOMEONE SUGGEST A SIMILAR SOFTWARE LIKE THAT OF XP

Shhhh! Caps lock off.

Why do you need to know which disk is being defragged?

If you can't resist watching paint dry...

Then again your money would be more beneficial at...

or somesuch.

Your time would be better spent licking yourself in a home for the mentally
challenged. Who got your panties all in a bunch?

Just FYI.

I have a 160gig hard drive and I start the defrag 5 1/2 hours ago and it's
still not though! Windows XP on the same computer took about 1 hour. I got
rid of the Windows old file during disk cleanup too, before starting to
defray. I am not a happy camper. Windows is going backwards instead of
forwards here. Bring back the Windows 98 defragmentor!

Vista's defragger is designed to work in the background, when you aren't
using the computer.
It's best to forget about it.

I still say it should not take 5 3/4 hours to defrag a 160g hard drive. If it
is working in the background, it would get 1/4 through and I would turn off
my computer and then it would have to start over again on the next start up.
It would never complete the job because I would not be on that long. I don't
leave my computer turned on if I am not using it. With broadband I don't want
to invite trouble.

Did you run Disk Cleanup before defrag? Is this a new install and indexing
has not completed yet? Unplug your broadband while it is working if you are
worried about intrusions however Vista has a very robust firewall AND you
can set it to temporarily block ALL in and out going traffic.

The Vista defragmenter runs in the background at a very low priority. If
anything else on your computer needs the resources, the Vista defragmenter
pauses till the task is completed. Then it continues. You are worrying about
nothing at all.

If you want faster defragmenting, purchase a 3rd party defragmenting program
such as PerfectDisk. Then you can run the defragmenter, use 80-100% of the
computer resources, and have the job be completed in about 5-10 minutes. Of
course you will not be able to perform any labor intensive task while doing
this.
