Defragmentation: unmoveable files

Because I have two computers (a PC and a notebook) running WIndows XP and
since some times I have on my notebook about 10 times more space used by
unmoveable files than on my PC.

I don't know why it happend and what is behind these files.

The major unmoveable file is the pagefile.

Free space cannot be defragmented with the Windows XP Disk Defragmenter.
Neither can your pagefile cannot be defragmented because the file is in
use whilst Disk Defragmenter is running. You can purchase other
Defragmenting
Utilities e.g. Perfect Disk, which will defragment your pagefile and
free space.
Another option is to place your pagefile in it's own partition. A
pagefile partition is best
located as the first partition on a second hard drive. You should leave
a small page file at
the original location.

the drive sizes and the disclosed free disk space.

Are the hard drives/partitions the same size?

No. On the notebook where the size of the unmoveable space seems suspect I
use a 10 GB partition while on the PC I have a 30 GB partition.

I estimate the unmoveable space on the notebook of a size of 1,5 GB and
indeed, the unmoveable space on the PC is perhaps not so much lower .

There are files that cannot be defragmented which means they cannot be
moved. You really should be unconcerned about that. Other unmovable files
that if moved would do nothing in terms of defragging. So again unconcern
yourself with them.

Usually the pagefile is one that can't be moved.
