They are both good. Neither one is really needed, IMO. The in built defrag
engine works well enough.

Neither; their bells & whistles add nothing that makes the XP defrag
undesirable.

Save your money and use the XP defrag.

Criteria was better, not cheaper. In that context Perfect Disk would
be the answer. New version 8.0 now available.

bgame63,

Diskeeper 10 is outstanding. It defragments in a manner different than the
built in defragmentation tool (also made by Diskeeper) as well as the
competition (O&O, Raxco).

The built-in defragmenter, Diskeeper prior to version 10, O&O and Raxco all
optimize files from the most used to the least used from the inside of the
disk towards the outside of the disk on each platter of the disk.

However Diskeeper 10 puts the most used files on the inside of the disk and
puts the least used on the most outside portion of the disk and going
inwards, depending upon use of the file. This essentially allows newer
files to be placed more towards the inside of the disk rather than at the
outside of the disk. Then when it's defragmented, it rearranges the files
accordingly.

All of this is IMHO from using the various programs on my home and laptop
computers.

"Better" is a value judgment that can include price or lack thereof. As
I have used XP's native defragger for over three years with no problems,
for me, "better" is not to stupidly waste money on a third party defragger.
