Hi All,
When I tried to defragment my C drive (system drive) this morning,
the defragmentation stayed at 1% and did nothing further. I stopped
it and retried, same thing happened. Please can some one help me with some
advice? My OS is Win Xp Pro SP1. NAV 2005.
Thank a lot

Just a wild guess but I bet you didn't disable your Norton Crapware's
auto scan feature before you started the defrag.

BTW, you might find that updating to SP2 will give you faster defrags.

Try running the the disk defragmenter in Safe Mode. To enter Safe Mode
start hitting the F8 key as soon as your computer starts booting. Select
Safe Mode from the menu that pops up.

Hi,

Question: Did the drive activity light stop flickering? If so, then you have
a problem with defrag. If not, then the utility is doing what it's supposed
to do and you should just leave it alone. Depending on the size of the
drive, the amount of fragmentation, and a current use, it may take quite
some time to run the defrag operation, longer so if you use the system while
it is running (it is a low priority process).

Try chkdsk with the fix option enabled (which will require a reboot). Also,
make sure that you have closed all other programs and that nothing is running
in the background that uses your hard drive.

For what it's worth, I don't think NAV 2005 is your problem. I briefly had
it last year, and it never caused me troubles defragmenting my hard drive.

You probably have some program running in the background. Anytime it writes
to the hard drive, defrag will find it necessary to start over again to
provide you with a "current" defrag. Either close all background programs
manually or run defrag from the SAFE mode.
