\ran defrag after failing with a system back up anf found that these files
cant be defagged
\recycler\NPROTECT\00062384.BKF
\RECYCLER\NPROTECT\00062711.BKF
these are 34gif in size between them
unfrotunately they are all over the HD and it's lost me an awful lot of
space, i have tried to locate them but cant find them to delete?

Try emptying your recycle bins for each account

and / or running a check disk

Right-click c: > Properties > Tools > (Under error checking) Check Now >
(Tick both boxes)

Then find something else to do for a couple of hours while check disk does
it's work.

no i have done both of those john first thing i thought of, whats happened is
i started a system backup but half way through it reported not enough disk
space available and stopped, but when i deleted the file on the c drive back
up, so as i could make a fresh one, its seems to have fragmented all over the
HD. My system runs fine but the fragmented parts of the back up wont defrag
or i cant seems to locate them to delete?

ok well the folder you want to look in is

c:\RECYCLER

It's a system folder, so you'll have to make it visible by checking (after
opening up c: in Windows Explorer)

Tools > Folder Options > View > Uncheck "Hide protected operating system
files...."

Then open up the folder and try deleting the files.

Disable that nortons protected recycle bin.

Why? What difference does it make if two files can't be defragmented?

No difference at all. Why are you asking me? Im not the one who thinks
it's a problem.
