Defrag

I wish to run defrag but when I click start/run/defrag, there is a window
generated which disappears after a very small fraction of a second and
nothing else happens.
Any ideas how to proceed will be much appreciated.

John,
The window, if you were to catch it (or read really really fast) says:

C:\...>defrag
Windows Disk Defragmenter
Copyright (c) 2001 Microsoft Corp. and Executive Software International,
Inc.
Usage:
defrag <volume> [-a] [-f] [-v] [-?]
volume drive letter or mount point (d: or d:\vol\mountpoint)
-a Analyze only
-f Force defragmentation even if free space is low
-v Verbose output
-? Display this help text

Your options are:

1) Run CMD first to open the command window. then run defrag as outlined
above.
2) Run the windows version of the same. You can find it located under
System Tools labeled Disk Defragmentor.
3) You can run #2 from command line (run) with this command:
%SystemRoot%\System32\dfrg.msc

Enjoy.
