Defrag

I wish to run defrag but when I click start/run/defrag, there is a window
generated which disappears after a very small fraction of a second and
nothing else happens.
Any ideas how to proceed will be much appreciated.

Try doing your defrag in Safe Mode.

Well, this information may not be very helpful as is it a solution to the
symptom and not the problem, but I'd recommend running PerfectDisk. I've
used it for some time now and am happy with the results I get from it - much
more so than I was with the built-in defrag utility. Again, sorry I can't
be more helpful.

Thanks Tony. As an alternative I have Norton Utilities Speed disk which has
not been very effective, that's why I thought I would try Defrag. If all
else fails maybe i'll try PerfectDisk which by the way I have never heard of
before!

Log in as administrator or User with these rights and:

Start/run
cmd
defrag c: -v
defrag c: -b

It should take about 30 minutes for a 40gb hd.
