Defrag

Degrag is set to run weekly at 1:00

If the pc is off at this time, will the defrag run on logging in,
irrepective of time.

It won't run when you next log in. Urban is wrong again!
Reschedule the defrag time to be your lunch time on a particular day or when
the computer will be sitting idle, but running.
OR, Delete the scheduled time, and defrag manually.

Yes it will. See this Disk Defragmenter FAQ by the development team:

"What about if the computer is off when it is supposed to be defragmented?
When will the next defrag take place?
Disk Defragmenter will run when the computer comes back up for the first
time after the missed scheduled task."

It had the default a.m. defrag time.
When the vista computer was turned on at 7am, defrag did NOT start.
I am telling what computers here have been doing.
 
Ever hear of "defrag when idle"? Of course not! Learn how defrag in Vista
operates before you toot off.

That a feature acts a certain way on a computer you have doesn't mean that's
the default for all systems. If you are seeing a certain behavior you
should qualify your post to say this is how it happens here, but I suggest
you not make a blanket statement about it unless you are certain that's how
it works and not just something specific to your system.

I posted a link to the FAQ about how it works. It is true that defrag, if
the scheduled time is missed, will run the next time the system boots during
idle time.
 
same thing goes for not working.

just because it works on yours does not mean it is true for every one.

just because there is a ms description does not mean it applies to every one.
