Hi

Anyone know of a good freeware defrag for Win2K?

Is there a ScanDisk equiv?
or is it built into the existing Defrag?
Disk Cleanup seems ready to wipe out all cookies, regardless of whether
they might be wanted or not.

Hello ssome,

If you open the properties from your drive, Tools tab, you have error checking,
check now, take your options and with the next reboot it will check the harddisk.

i'm trying to defrag a 30 GB HD 5400 rpm with 21% free space and it takes
some time; can't move data to free up space. All done in Admin.

45 mins into it, the machine shuts down as it auto-unplugs ! i have tried
to get rid of the sys tray unplug icon, nothing in win\startup, can't find
the timer setting in BIOS, no help in Task Mgr. Why would MSoft think it
is a good idea to shut down a HD after 45 mins and turn off the machine,
losing data on that drive?

Help files of no use.

what does it take to make this new 2.6GHz, 2 GB RAM machine behave?

half hour shutdown, not 45 mins. so, i tried to Pause Defrag and then
Stop it before the half hour is up and it takes 15 mins at molasses speed to
shut down Defrag, save settings, and tell me that i probably lost data.
what is going on?
