Defrag

While defragging a HD, the systemappeared to lock. Four hours later I shut
down the system (XP SP2) Now I can not boot the system to anything but setup.
The drives are not recognized. I have 2 HDD, 2 cd-rom, and can set everyting
but the boot drive. After saving the BIOS setup, I reboot and have the same
problem.
any suggestions?

- There is a "use default settings" in bios setup, try that,
except change one thing: make cd-rom the first boot device.
- Can you then use the Windows CD to boot to Windows setup?

Thanks for the response, but no luck. The drive just clicks away. I'm
beginning to believe that the drive has crashed without a warning. Am unable
to get to the CD-ROM.

Hi,

Download a drive diagnostic tool from the web site of the drive
manufacturer. Boot the system with the disk it creates and test the disk. If
it's a candidate for replacement (and that clicking sound definitely makes
it sound as though it is), then this should confirm it.

Thanks for the input. Three sources have concluded that the drive is trash. I
have started a RMA with the manufacturer.

Thanks, again.
