Defrag won't run

I tried reinstalling defrag by using the .inf file but that didn't work.
Defrag was working just fine the other day. Can't figure what I must have
done.

I right click the drive I want to defrag. Then Properties > Tools > Defrag
Now. I get the Defrag window, just no action when I click the button. Any
thoughts?

Nothing happens when clicking on Defragment or Analyze in Disk Defragmenter
(dfrg.msc).

With XP SP2 the DCOM Server Process Launcher service needs to be running for
Defrag to work.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click DCOM Server Process Launcher |
Set Startup type to Automatic | Click OK | Close Services |
Reboot

Note the following things will fail if this service is not running:
The builtin defrag will fail to work, and if running defrag from the command
line one gets this error:
Windows cannot connect to the Disk Defragmenter engine

I am also having the same problem with disk defragmenter not doing anything
when I click on the buttons. I actually had to run regsrv32 and re-register
the disk defragmenter to even get it to run.

Right now i can run the program, but it won't do anything. And if I click on
a drive in windows explorer and click properties, under the tools tab it says
i have no defragmenter installed.

except for me, my DCOM service is up and running.
what do I do? how do I re-install the defragmenter?
thanks

Start | Run | Type: regsvr32 dfrgui.dll | Click OK

Start | Run | Type: regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll | Click OK

Then navigate to...
%windir%\inf | Right click dfrg.inf | Select Install
or
C:\Windows\Inf | Right click dfrg.inf | Select Install
