Try to run a defrag and get a message as follows:
Volume C has 48% free space, but 0% availble for use by
Disk Defrag. Disk Defrag needs 15% usable free space.

Anyone know why I get this message???

Lin,

Free space on NTFS is actually located in 2 different areas - INSIDE of the
MFT Reserved Zone and OUTSIDE of the MFT Reserved Zone.

If you look in Windows Explorer at Drive Properties, the total free space
show is the total of the free space in the two different areas. You as a
user and the system as a general rule have access to the free space in both
areas - however, the file system will try to avoid putting files inside of
the Reserved Zone unless you get into a low free space condition.
Microsoft's defrag APIs under Win2k do NOT allow defragmenters access to the
free space inside of the Reserved Zone.

What you need to do is determine how much of the free space on the drive is
inside/outside of the Reserved Zone.
