Defrag got unoperable

Hi!

Please, is there any explanation for, or rather a cure, why the Windows XP
Home Defrag Utility suddenly got unoperable?

It is opening pertinently, but when marking/double-clicking any of the disk
drives nothing happens ...

Should the utility just be re-copied from the installation disk, or could
the fault be hiding somewhere else "more in deep"?

Thanks in advance for any hints.

Best regards,

Pete V.

Nothing happens when clicking on Defragment or analyze.

Defrag with XP SP2 needs the DCOM Server Process Launcher service running.

Click Start, Run and type SERVICES.MSC
Double-click the DCOM Server Process Launcher service
Set it's startup type to "Automatic"
Restart Windows.

This fix worked for me. dfrgntfs.exe was crashing. Both from defrag.exe in
a command prompt and dfrg.msc.

Start | Run | Type: regsvr32 dfrgui.dll | Click OK

Start | Run | Type: regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll | Click OK

Navigate to...
%windir%\inf\ | Right click dfrg.inf | Select Install

Hope this helps. Let us know.
