How are you trying to start Disk Defragmenter?

Do you get any error messages?

I already used chkdsk and noone problem checked ....

I have the first disk (C) with the Windows files and another disk with data.
The error I get starting Defrag is: <<cannot initialize the disk>>
Defrag starts but doesn't go after the initial screen, where you can choose
the disk you want to defrag ....... and everything (Software) is working
very well !!!

Just run from cmd prompt. You do this by:

1) Type cmd in run box (START, RUN, CMD);
2) in the black screen box type
defrag c: -f
Replace c: with your own disk name. You can't defrag any removeable
drives such as floppy.

Has Disk Defragmenter been disabled -see extract on how to check the
Registry from Kelly's web site which follows:

Enable or disable Boot Defrag
Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction
Select Enable from the list on the right. Right on it and select Modify.
Change the value to Y to enable and N to disable.
Reboot your computer.

something linked to diskeeper I used for some days and than I removed using
Microsoft tool in the Control Panel, but cancelling with Explorer some
directories I found in my hard disk .....

Anyway many thanks for your support

First
regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll
and after
regsvr32 dfrgui.dll
