Deference between Subject and conversation fields!

Dear Sir/Madam
please let me know the Deference between Subject and conversation fields in
MS outlook 2003 .

I think the Coversation field holds the original subject of a thread so mail
items will stay grouped even if someone changes the subject
 
Conversation along with ConversationIndex are used for threading as Vince
indicated.
