Defender Update Error 0x80240029

Hi there!

Since a few days Defender doesn't update the difinitions anymore. If I
search for updates I always get the error code 0x80240029.

This is in the WindowsUpdate.log:

Have you installed OneCare or Forefront Client Protection?

If nothing like that applies (those applications replace Windows Defender,
which should be disabled)--I'd try reverting the definitions to 1.0.0 and
downloading new ones from scratch.

You can do this by going to a command prompt in the folder Windows Defender
is installed in, typically c:\program files\windows defender

and typing:

mpcmdrun -RemoveDefinitions -all

Then go to WindowsUpdate and do an express scan.

Fireplug1 here the problem is not an invalid PID which many suspected but a
corrupted folder named: SoftwareDistribution, once you restart in safe mode
and follow the instructions at the follow link you will have completely fixed
the problem..here is the link...go there first write down the instructions
and then follow them:
