Hi all,

I'm running windows defender (beta 2) in the background no problem and
suddenly i get a warning message saying that "MS defender encountered an
error 0X800703eb. cannot complete this function." What could this possibly

LDAP_UNWILLING_TO_PERFORM is what his page says. now i understand
completely... not

i only upgraded to beta2 because beta1 expired on the 31st of july. was much
happier with it and i'm surprised after all this time that this porgram stil
ahs defects. may switch to another brand of antispyware if this problem
remains unresolved. i see it is fairly common.

Hello zsyed,

Please read Eric post, his problem and your are diferent.

However--be careful that your problem is really the same as the one
posted--a good proportion of the time when someone chimes into a thread with
"I have the same problem"--it may share one or another symptom, but have a
different root cause, and thus need different advice.

I suggest start your own post.

What Windows Defender Engine version?

What Windows Defender Definition version?

Hi Eric

So--the way to dig into this:

Windows Defender records, in the System event log, at the time of the scan,
the precise path and filename of each detection.

So--right click My Computer, choose Manage.
Click on the plus sign in front of Event Viewer.
Click on the System events log, in the left column.
Click on View (top menu), filter.
Click the down-arrow at the right of Event Source, and choose "WinDefend."
Click apply, click OK.

Now--in the right window, scroll back to the time of the original detection,
and look for yellow-triangle marked records for those original detections.
Double-click a record in the right window to open it and see the full
detail. You can cut and paste, via a button--back to this thread.

Failure Type: Crash

Hi eric,

This error (0xc0000005) occurs because of memory corruption.

I think you may have to work at excluding Encarta from the scan, as an
interim measure. Tools, Options, scroll down to Advanced options, and fill
the box, by adding the full path and file name to the Tools/Options/ do not
scan box, hit the add button, and Save.

yes, that was my logical next step. when you say "memory corruption" are you
talking about my RAM chips??

thx.

Hi eric,

Well, you have to test the RAM to really find out, I don't have any autority
to said is the RAM, also sometimes a device driver installed on your computer
caused the Windows operating system to stop unexpectedly. This type of error
is referred to as a "stop error." A stop error requires you to restart your
computer.

Here are a few links for you to read, in case you want to test your RAM

But I think if you exclude Encarta, all will be fine.

Good luck
