Defender Error 0x80070005 Event ID 3003

I have Windows 2000 Pro SP4 with all the lastest updates applied. I
downloaded Defender today (Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0 Engine
Version: 1.1.1441.0 Definition Version: 1.14.1475.5) and installed and
updated it. But I now see there are errors coming up in the event log:
"Event ID 3003
Windows Defender Real-Time Protection checkpoint has encountered an error
and failed to start.
User: ECS\Administrator
Checkpoint ID: 7
Error Code: 0x80070005
Error description: Access is denied."

I am logged on as Administrator and have turned off Automatic Scanning (i.e.
there should be no scheduled tasks). There are several of the above messages
in my event viewer.

Thanks for this link but, as you say, the article applies only to XP Pro and
I am using Win2K. Also I said that I have not tried to schedule any tasks in
Defender (nor any other program, in fact). I have a feeling that the error
may be something to do with Cybersitter (it isn't active on my user account
but it is on my daughter's) because it seems to cause plenty of problems
elsewhere.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Lil,

Sorry, I don't have any sugestion about your problem, maybe someone closer
to the scene, can give you a better solution.

Cheers up and good luck

As noted by Dave Hawley in his post on 4/21/06:

"I have found that it goes away if I uncheck "System Configuration" in the
Windows Defender Real-Time protection options under "Tools - General
Settings"."

This worked for me, too.
