Default xp theme visually broken after crash

Here's my problem:

I got the usual blue screen, having done nothing and no
modified themes or anything of that sort. When computer
started back up, however, the default windows xp theme now
just shows black all over the place with messed up text.
Windows classic still works fine. So I then installed a
theme software to see if that would fix it, but they all
have the same problem as with the default WinXP theme.

It sounds like your graphics driver may have gotten munged. Try installing
or reinstalling the latest version from your video card maker's (or computer
maker's) website.
