Default setting

Hello All

I'm actually a bit embarrased at having to ask for help in this matter.
Previously I had set my default setting for saving Excel files to
F:\Excel.

I have recently upgraded a hard drive and eliminated Drive F:. However
when trying to save new Excel files I am getting the error message,
can't find F:\Excel. I should know where to find this setting and
return it to its default setting, I really should. Any ideas?

Many thanks for your reply. That was the first thing I did. Then got an

Try using "Save As" instead of save.
Excel may be "remembering" where it originally saved the workbook;
using "Save As" will tell Excel to "remember" the new location,
overwriting the old".

How are you loading the file if the "F" drive no longer exists. Excel
should know that the file was not loaded from the "F" drive (since it
no longer exists). Did you use some type of backup software before you
installed your new drive, then restore the data to the new drive, or
did you copy it to another location (network drive, jump drive, CD,
etc) manually, then copy the file to the new drive?

I have already tried all that. Nothing seems to resolve this problem.
As a last resort, I will un-install Office and re-install.

Even after un-installing Office XP and then re-installing, the fault is
still there. I cannot get into any of the Options features except for
View.

Apart from reformatting my HD, I am at a loss. I have searched the
registry for any reference to the default save option but can't find
any.

Does anybody at there have any idea about solving this problem?

Hi Terence,

Another couple of possibilities:

* Do you have any addins loaded [alt + t + i] which may refer to the F
drive?
* Does your file have any macros which may be attempting to save a copy
to the F drive?
* Do you have any pivot tables/indirect formulae in the file which
attempt to update/calculate when being saved but refer to an F drive
file?
&/or most likely,
* if you have autosave enabled, is it to an F drive location?
This can be checked under the "save" tab of Tools - Options.

Success. I went back to the registry and looked at the options setting
for Excel. There it was - settings for the default drive and auto-save
option.

I have been able to change both options and can now get into all the
options.

It is so nice to know that there are people out there who are willing
to spend their time getting old foggies like me to start using their
brains again. Thank you all.
