Default picture format to "inline with text"

Is there any way to make "inline with text" the default format for inserting
pictures? Every time I insert a picture into a word document, I have to
reformat the picture so that it doesn't float randomly about. Reformating
takes 6 mouse clicks. On average I have to do this about 20 times every
working day or about 4000 times per year or about 60,000 times or 360,000
mouse clicks in the last 15 years since MicroSoft downgraded this feature.
It takes about 2 seconds each time which means that I have spent 33-1/3rd
hours doing this.

you don't have to go through all those extra clicks! go too
tools\options\edit\ and Insert/Paste picture as: In Line with text :)

Thanks for the suggestion but "Insert/Paste picture as: In Line with text" is
not listed on the tools\options\edit tab in Word 2000.

Any suggestions other than upgrading?

If you have Word 2002 or above, this option is on the Edit tab of Tools |
Options.

Harvey and Suzanne,

Thank you for the responses. I commonly paste graphics from Excel and from
CAD programs as pictures to avoid problems with font resizing and CPU
freezup. From the article posted at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQS/DrwGrphcs/InlinePasteSpec.htm, it appears that
Word 2002 and above can be fooled with a macro. The article does not mention
Word 2003 or 2007.

Do you know if pictures can pasted InLine using the paste special command by
Word 2003 or 2007 or whether these newer versions will tolerate macro
workarounds?

The macro Sub EditPasteSpecial() works, my coworkers are amazed.

Thank you, this has been the bane of my existence.

The macro (which should work in all versions) is necessary only for Paste
Special. As previously stated, you can select the default wrapping for
Insert and Paste on the Edit tab of Tools | Options. Unfortunately, Paste
Special defaults to Square or some other wrapping depending on the default
format for the Clipboard contents.

As Suzanne noted, as of Word 2002 you have the option to set how you want
images pasted by default, such as inline, square, tight, behind text, etc.
There's no need for Paste Special or other workarounds.

Is there any way to make "tight" the default format for inserting pictures in
VISTA? I have windows VISTA home edition. I changed to TIGHT as suggested
(WORD OPTIONS, Advanced, Cut,Copy andPaste), but when I cut and paste a
picture from a web site to a word document it still does not format to TIGHT.
WHY?

I am trying to set the default for picture pasting to 'tight' using Office
2007 and Windows XP.
I have followed the instructions above - button/word options/ advanced/
cut... and set it to tight.
But when I past a picture it still pastes it in line with text.
I have closed and re-opened word, and the problem remains.
when I go back into button etc, it is set to tight, it just doesn't work
that way.
Is there a solution?

When you paste a picture then right click and check Text Wrapping is it showing as 'inline' ?

The option setting is stored in the registry. Is this a home or work computer? It;s It's possible that you don't have user profile
permissions to make the modification so that it sticks beyond the current session, or that the registry key that stores the
information is damaged or that an add-in is overriding the change either on closing or starting Word.

If you start word, use
Office Button=>Word Options=>Advanced=>Cut, copy and paste
and set Insert/paste picture as Tight, then type a space in the blank document then close Word (without saving the document) then
restart Word what is the setting for that option?

If it did not stick, try going to
Office Button=>Word Options=>Trust Center=>Addins and
turn on the choice disable all addins, restart Word and try to stick the choice again, then restart Word and turn the add-ins back
on.

Thanks Bob.
It seems as though changing the options track works, and it sticks the
setting there to 'tight' between Word sessions. Sadly, when I paste an
image, it does not obey this setting, but pastes it as 'in line with text'.
Is that very very strange?
To answer your questions:

Yes it shows a 'inline' when I paste in an image.
My computer is a work one.
As I said above the setting sticks, but the program doesn't obey it i.e. in
a new session of Word, doing the button route, the cut and paste is still set
at tight. However, in a new document, if I paste in an image, and right
click it, its text wrapping is inline.

I hesitate to try the 'add in' instructions, as I am not sure what the
problem is.
