default open to details

Is there any way to set the default properties to 'open' a file to show
details?

I'd like to see the date and time, so setting the default to details
would eliminate a step. TIA!

.
yes there is. what you need to do is open a folder and set
it to whatever setting you want when it opens (I.E.
displaying details instead of icons.) and then goto TOOLS,
and then FOLDER OPTIONS. select the Tab that says VIEW.
and then press the APPLY TO ALL FOLDERS button. this will
set all of your folders to do the same thing as the
current folder that you have open.

I'm asking about when you open a file from an application such as Word,
Excel, Access, etc. I'm NOT talking about from Windows Explorer. Your
suggestion will not work from an application although a good one because
I already use this setting from Windows Explorer. Any other ideals?
TIA!

Greg

I use Office97 and Office2002.

With both I can do a File>Open to get the dialog box. I can click on the
"Views" button and set to "Details".

Excel and Word will retain that setting. I don't use Access much but assume
it would react in a similar manner.

Hope I have interpreted your needs correctly. If not, I'm sure you will post
back to the NG or perhaps one of the MS Office NG's

It doesn't retain the setting for me using Office XP on WinXP Pro which
is why I asked the question.

I think so. Unfortunately our environments our different.
