default Master Volume

Can somebody tell me how to change the default Master
Volume settings??
I keep on enabling (unmuting) my microphone.
But after starting up I find my microphone muted again.
I appreciate your help

this is a quck response but...it must be a program thats doing sounds like
safety feature so ya dont blow your speakers. are you using music match box?
that used to do that to me. check any sound related programs for options.
