CuteFTP

When I click on an ftp link in an email, IE comes up. How do I make
CuteFTP the default ftp handler. CuteFTP has no provision internally for
making itself the default according to their tech support and no further
suggestions.

Thanks, Jay

Jay,

Alter the "URL : File Transfer Protocol" settings via Folder Options > File
Types dialog.

Google Search for "CuteFTP file association":

Look at the 3rd hit, a PDF file.
http://www.google.com/search?q=CuteFTP+file+association

In "file types" there is no URL:FileTransferProtocol but I remember it
from Win98SE. And I don't see a way of adding it since I am prompted for
an "extension" when clicking ADD.

The PDF doc mentioned is for an earlier version of CuteFTP. I'm running
CuteFTP 3.3 Pro and there no "Browser Integration" setting.

Dead end so far ...

Thanks for the reply.

URL:FileTransferProtocol should exist (by default). Look for this entry
exactly:

(NONE) URL:File Transfer Protocol

If not, Use the Set Program Access and Defaults option in Add/Remove
Programs, and set IE as the default. this is because the URL:File Transfer
Protocol will be re-created when you do so.

Then, edit the "open" action, and set it to CuteFTP Pro.

Update:

I downloaded the latest version of CuteFTP Pro and installed it. I had no
problems modifying the URL:Protocol settings, and mail clients like OE
honors the setting. The problem is that the application executable does not
parse the command-line parameter properly (the "%1"), and clicking on FTP
link results in an error, thought he application opens.

So, if you're very much in need of such feature, it's better to write to
CuteFTP Pro, so that they can enable this feature in future versions of the
product. Or switch to any other FTP client.
