default format for Excel numbers

Bringing up a new sheet and typin in the number 262 in any cell, gets entered
as 2.62; as if the entered nuymber is divided by 100. How do I change it back
to normal?

Goto the menu Tools>Options>Edit tab>uncheck Fixed decimal places>OK

In 2007 press Alt+1, choose Advanced, uncheck Automatically insert a decimal
point
