how can I make outlook express appear in the pull down menu for my internet
explorer default e-mail program. Right now the pull down menu is blank with
no options.

No problem! But in future, setup Outlook Express or any other newsreader.
That way you can easily track/store/search the messages locally and
synchronize them. That's the way to access Newsgroups.
