Default Double Click action is "Search"

Ok...I have a very annoying problem.
Whenever I double click on a file, the default action
is "Search" so my computer brings up the Search results
window.
If I right click on the folder the bolded item is
Search...so to open my folder I have to right click on it
and select open.
Double-clicking has been pretty much elimintated for me.
This only happens with folders. If I double click on a
drive in "My Computer" it opens the drive just fine, but
that's when the trouble starts.
Any suggestions?
