i downloaded mozilla firefox and set it to be my default
browser. then i decided i didn't like it and deleted the
program. is there a way to reset my default browser to
internet explorer?

Internet options>Programs tab>Check the box for IE to check if it's the default browser.

In Internet Options - Programs page, check the box 'Internet Explorer
should check to see if it is default'. Next time you load it it will
ask you if you want it as such.
